Good timing, deliciousness, not Sunday

The clouds cleared and the sun came out just in time for the wedding Luke and I went to yesterday afternoon.  The ceremony took place outside, on a lawn right at the top of the dunes at Sorrento Back Beach.  Mother Nature could not have been more obliging. 

The service was followed by a cocktail style reception. The food included the Mother of All Fruit and Cheese Platters:

It was  HUGE, looked amazing and was loaded with deliciousness. You can't really see it in my photo, but the cheese was garnished with two green olives made to look like mice, with little ears and a tail.

I wore my red shoes and a dress I bought for under $50, which somehow manages to be figure-hugging and super flattering. I always feel good when I wear it. Luke looked very handsome in his grey suit.  

I had a massive sleep in today (not on purpose). It was early afternoon by the time I emerged, so we didn't end up going to the St Kilda Cemetery. Instead we went to Demitri's Feast, another Greek-influenced café, on Swan Street for brunch. We sat in the warm sun in the rear courtyard. I had honey oat crumble which was very tasty. It looked good too - those little pink bits are flower petals.

I keep thinking today is Sunday because I had Friday off work. But it's not. Yay!

A graduate at work today complimented me on the necklace I was wearing, which was a silver keyhole. Then I noticed she was wearing a necklace shaped like a key!

That reminds me, I wore my button brooch yesterday and several people commented on it. 

I made a batch of gluten-free muesli last night with oats, rice flakes, buckwheat puffs, pecans and sesame seeds toasted in brown sugar, maple syrup and vanilla. Tis yummy!

I wore my black knit armwarmers in the office today. I quite like subverting the corporate culture in my own small way.

Compliments, presents, exactitude and pie.

I have worn a top to work twice in the past two weeks that has been in my wardrobe for more than 10 years. I have never received so many compliments on an item of clothing before! It's a 3/4 sleeved, V-neck top with fine diagonal purple and black stripes that meet at a mid-seam on the front and back. There's a little bit of silver thread through it too.

I forgot to mention yesterday that one of the young solicitors I work for returned yesterday from a trip to Thailand with a present for me - a colourful woven cotton scarf. What a sweetheart!

My grocery bill at the supermarket came to exactly $20.

I'm making shepherd's pie for dinner tomorrow night. Having someone to cook for and the cooler weather have combined to get me more excited about being in the kitchen.

Tree, short week and vintage vamp

I discovered a beautiful tree today. I'd walked past it a few times before, but I never really noticed it. It's growing in the Rockley Gardens on Toorak Road. I love Golden Elms.

My favourite one is just near my flat, at the intersection of Punt Road and Alexandra Avenue. It's huuuuuuuuuuuuuge. You can easily stand up under the canopy and if you do that on a sunny day, it has a beautiful golden-green glow.

I have walked heaps on my five-day long weekend - 64.2 kms over the past seven days (excluding today's total of 8.44kms). I think that's a new weekly record (not that I actually keep such records).

Back to work tomorrow, but at least my working week will only be two days long. Ace!

I bought a red lipstick to wear to the Gangster's Ball on Saturday night. I'm really glamming it up big time! Totally working the vintage/vampy look (or attempting to). I rarely wear lipstick normally or lip gloss even - usually just a bit of Paw Paw Ointment or Burt's Bees honey lipbalm when needed.

I'm not entirely sure about the red lippy. I did get advice on which shade would suit my colouring and I think it does suit. I guess I'm just not used to wearing such vivid lip colour. I feel a bit like a kid playing dress ups. It's fun. I'm half-tempted to glam up my day-to-day look now...

I think I've decided on my outfit - a figure-hugging satin, strapless cocktail dress with a fishtail hem and silver beading and embroidery, long black gloves, micro fishnets and my new sandals.
