Fishnets ahoy!

New York cabaret star Meow Meow

So, the Gangsters' Ball is over...I feel a little deflated now after all that build up, but it was a fun night. Great performers, great music, a fantastic venue (love The Forum) and heaps of eye-popping outfits.

There were men in all black with white ties and braces, zoot suits, fedoras and wingtips, and women in everything from figure-hugging evening gowns, fringed flapper dresses and full skirts with stiff petticoats to corsets and burlesque-style lingerie. It's not every day you see a woman strolling along Flinders Street in French knickers and suspenders! I reckon sales of fishnets in Melbourne would have spiked this week too. They were everywhere (including on my very own pins).

Anyway, I said I'd post a photo of my outfit so here you go:

Chickened out on the really red lippie, but this was still pretty red

Ball time

Tonight's the night the gangsters and their molls (and burlesque girls and swing dancers and rockabilly guys and gals) come out to play! My outfit is ready to go. My girly beauty rituals are 80 per cent complete. I can't wait.

It's been a hot day in Melbourne, which should make for a pleasantly balmy evening.

I got the finishing touch for my outfit today - a red Olga Berg clutch purse to compliment my red pout. It was only $30 too. I'm such a bargain hunter... Luckily it's big enough to hold my camera, which means I will hopefully have some photos to show you tomorrow.

Stay tuned...
