Earlier bird and extra long weekend (hopefully)

Prince's Bridge and Eureka Tower

I walked to work for only the second or third time this year. I haven't been walking in the mornings because it's too hard to drag my weary body out of bed early enough, even though I don't have to get up much earlier to make time for the 40-minute walk. I got up at 7.50 this morning instead of 8.00...or 8.10 on some days...and I got to work a few minutes before 9.00.

It was a pleasant morning for a stroll, and it was also a relief to avoid the trams, which never seem to run as often as they're meant to and which are full of people who have a tendency to annoy grumps like me.

I hope I can repeat the feat of getting up 10 minutes earlier again tomorrow.

It's a long weekend this weekend, with Labour Day on Monday. I think I have this Friday off as well. Wooh, four-day weekend for meeeee!  I don't have any plans to go away, just to potter at home doing stuff that's been on my to-do list for months and resting.

Repeat, dancing, gold

I listened to Graveyard Train's Life is Elsewhere on repeat at the gym and on my way home tonight. It has a good beat for fast walking.

When I walked past the State Library there were people dancing to music coming from about a dozen ghetto blasters (proper old school ones) lined up on the front steps. One young guy appeared to be wearing only his undies and singlet. (I didn't take photos because I didn't want to disrupt my  post-work out power walk momentum.)

Further along Swanston Street, the sun was sinking low and perfectly in line with with Collins and Bourke Streets so that the tram tracks looked like twin rows of gold disappearing into the light. I should have taken a photo of that.

Backflipping and bee spotting

I did that thing again today where I make up my mind not to go to the gym...and then I get changed into my gym gear and go to the gym. I also increased my reps on two exercises.

I saw a bee on my way home.

And then I saw two more...

And another two...

There were others too. They were painted on the footpath that runs from Flinders Street to Birrarung Marr at the back of Federation Square. I have no idea why they were there.

Stuff I like

Ah, no, wasn't me who wrote that in the gravel at Birrarung Marr

I like it when I can offload all my 5 and 10 cent pieces into the ticket machine on the tram.

I like it when my flatmate is away and I have a whole weekend ahead of me that is almost devoid of plans (that don't involve pyjamas).

I like it when people ask me for directions.

I like the word bumblebee.

More flattery...

This is my new Hot Wheels pencil case. How kind of the manufacturer to put "HOT" in there where my name is meant to go. Thanks, guys. (First a complimentary fish, now a pencil case...)

I have customised now.
