A new year, falling in love, and ducks

Welcome to 2009! I saw in the new year in a very low-key way with friends, nibblies and champers out in the 'burbs.

I think I have mentioned their almost-two-year-old son before. Every time I see him I fall more in love with him. He is just SO adorable, with his blond hair, blue eyes and long, dark eyelashes, and he's funny and sweet natured (most of the time). Though I love him to bits, spending time with him doesn't make me want a child of my own. Phew.

I am enjoying being on holidays back in Melbourne. Apart from visiting my dad and step-mum Wednesday, I have no concrete plans and love that I can make it up as I go along. Today I didn't get out of my pjs until nearly 3.00pm, which felt like quite an indulgence on a week day, although I don't want to do it every day for the rest of my break.

After I finally got dressed, I went for a walk in the sunshine and saw a family of ducks. Aw.... I'm overdosing on cuteness.

How did you see in the New Year?

C'mon! Everyone in the pond!

Oh No ! another P.J.person, I too had mine on until this afternoon.I was on a roll, getting a large cushion/mattress for a day bed re upholstered, piping around all edges, the works...feeling quite chuffed that it is finished.Won't be doing that again in a hurry !!!
Had some friends over for dinner, they didn't want dessert, so I am eating apple&blueberry crumble with custard, can't go to bed hungry !Happy New Year

What are champers?

Okay, so it's 6 p.m. and I'm am STILL in my pajamas.

I rang in the New Year with nibblies, and possibly champers, with the Lion, my daughter and her boyfriend.

We ate. Played a card game. Watched a show. Then played Guitar Hero until it was time to crack open the bubbly.

Hello Abbeysmum. Well done on your upholstering. Sadly the pull of my laptop had more to do with me being in my pjs until mid afternoon. And mmmm...apple and blueberry crumble.

Hi Urban Panther. Silly me. Sometimes I forget about the slang thing. Champers is short for champagne, so yes, you did have some.

I think you win the pj marathon!

It's a nice time of year in Melbourne. The weather doesn't normally heat up until the tennis starts.

3pm in the PJs. That's on my wishlist!

I'm currently in my pjs. ;P Those ducks are cute, which is further helped by the comment! :)

Sounds like you had a nice, relaxed NY's. I went to a house party, which was good, then to St. Kilda beach to see the New Year in with some other people. Apart from a couple of nearby punch-ups, it was good. We couldn't really see the city fireworks display, but a bunch of people had brought their own, and every now and then someone would let a few off (they aren't legal in Victoria, just to put any out-of-towners in the picture!).

Three of the people I was with were from Scotland, so naturally Auld Lang Syne came out, largely for the cliche value, I think, esp. seeing as they didn't actually know all of the words! ;)

Hello Michael and welcome. Yes, early summer is usually a good time of year in Melbourne, though it has been unusually cool so far. I'm sure the scorching heat will arrive eventually. I think you should pencil Pyjama Day into your schedule!

Hi Julian. The ducks were very popular - apart from me there was a posse of tourists taking pictures of them.

It's amazing how many people are able to get their hands on supposedly illegal fireworks, isn't it? A friend said that most Asian grocers stock them. It's all fun until someone loses an eye though...

Yep, Asian grocers stock 'em alright. When someone back in school somehow managed to bring a whole wad of fireworks back from overseas and sell them cheaply to other students, I (naturally) bought some. ;) Of course I then got to wondering how I could get more, and someone else told me to just ask in any little store in Chinatown. I did, and the shopkeepers were happy to quote me (expensive!) prices once they'd established I wouldn't be ratting them out to the cops!

It's the few idiots that ruin it for everyone else, of course. If some people weren't doing stupid things like letting them off in the middle of NYE crowds on the beach, they probably wouldn't've been banned in the first place. :(

(There's *ahem* the problem of kids getting their hands on them of course (although I was actually rather old at the time), but I'd like to think that that wouldn't have to be a problem in a somewhat more responsible society.)
