I know I've waxed lyrical about the Royal Botanic Gardens before, but this is my blog and I'll do it again if I want to, dammit!
I wandered through the gardens on my way home from the gym today. I just love how I can still find new things to delight me...or perhaps rediscover things that I'd forgotten I knew about.
I was walking around with my camera taking photos of flowers when I passed through Fern Gully and saw the Fern Gully Rest House (above). How cute is that little gazebo? Look at the moss-laden shingles!
While I was taking photos of the mossy shingles, I saw a little patch of tiny fungi growing on the edge of the roof.

Hidden Places Open Day
On July 19, the curious can explore hidden corridors beneath Federation Square, the Gothic glamour of Collins Street's Manchester Unity building's boardroom and the concrete catacombs of Melbourne's first electricity substation.
I absolutely love the fungi growing out of the moss. We are crazy for mushrooms ... eating them, yes (when we know for sure that they are safe) ... but mostly taking pictures of them. They are so lovely ... and there are so many different kinds, each with a unique shape and/or color. Finding these was like finding a hidden treasure. I'm so glad that you take the time to look deeper and see all the details of a spot ... not everyone sees what you see.

The lichen and moss gives it so much character - a wedding reception place near me recently had their slate roof cleaned and it looks sooooooooo blah now.
What lovely shots. This looks like a magical place. We've had so much rain in the flatlands I haven't had the opportunity in dry time to go visit our botanical gardens...which are also spectacular.
Good place to take a date also!
